It has committed to keeping its services, prices and contracts unchanged.<\/li>\n<li>A foundation holds the majority of voting rights: the company stays independent, and your data stays in Switzerland.<\/li>\n<li>There&#8217;s nothing you need to do for your websites and email. Three things deserve your attention, though: your site&#8217;s PHP version, two-factor authentication and, in Quebec, Law 25.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>Since yesterday, Infomaniak has a ticker symbol: INFO. The first price, at the opening on October 1 on the SIX Swiss Exchange, was 56 Swiss francs. For many of our clients, the name mostly brings to mind their email address or the place where their website runs. So one question keeps coming up since the announcement this summer: will this change anything?<\/p>\n<p>Short answer: no, not for you. Longer answer below, along with everything that has changed at this host since 2024, and a useful reminder for Quebec businesses.<\/p>\n<h2>An unusual way to go public<\/h2>\n<p>Infomaniak didn&#8217;t do a traditional IPO. On July 29, the company announced its listing through Perrot Duval, an already listed company that took it over. The transaction was approved at Perrot Duval&#8217;s general meeting on September 24, and the shares have been trading since October 1. An important point: <strong>no capital was raised<\/strong>. Infomaniak didn&#8217;t sell itself to investors to fund its growth.<\/p>\n<p>Above all, control of the company was locked in before the deal. In May, its founder, Boris Siegenthaler, irrevocably transferred the majority of voting rights to the Infomaniak Foundation. In other words, an investor can&#8217;t take control of Infomaniak by buying its shares on the market. That&#8217;s consistent with what has set it apart from the start: an independent Swiss company whose data is hosted and processed exclusively in Switzerland.<\/p>\n<p>The prospectus published in early September gives an idea of its size: 54.2 million francs in net revenue in 2025 (+13.8%), 31 million in the first half of 2026 (+16.2%), 337 employees and more than 300,000 paying customers. In March, the company also announced a multi-year plan of 200 million francs for its data centers, AI and research.<\/p>\n<h2>What doesn&#8217;t change<\/h2>\n<p>Infomaniak has made a public commitment: no changes to services, pricing policy, contracts or data location. Websites stay hosted in the same place, email too, and there&#8217;s nothing you need to do. If that ever changes, we&#8217;ll let you know well in advance, as we do for every change that affects your website. HDKN is an official Infomaniak partner, and we manage the hosting of the websites we look after.<\/p>\n<h2>What has changed at Infomaniak since 2024<\/h2>\n<p>Going public is the visible part. But a lot has happened in two and a half years, and some of it affects you directly.<\/p>\n<h3>A data center that heats homes<\/h3>\n<p>The first servers in the new D4 data center, built underground in Geneva, went live at the end of 2023. Since November 11, 2024, its heat has been fed into Geneva&#8217;s district heating network, and it was officially opened on January 27, 2025. Infomaniak says it will heat the equivalent of 6,000 homes, ramping up until 2028, with a PUE (the energy efficiency indicator for data centers) of 1.09, a very low figure. That&#8217;s a concrete argument if your customers care about the environmental footprint of digital services.<\/p>\n<h3>AI arrives, Swiss style<\/h3>\n<p>In February 2024, Infomaniak opened a generative AI API for developers. An AI writing assistant had already been available in its Mail app since late 2023, and in October 2024 came &#8220;AI Tools&#8221;, an AI platform with a web app and an API. Then Euria: quietly launched in kDrive in June 2025, it has been open to everyone since December 9, 2025, free and without an account for basic use. Euria runs in the Geneva data center, and Infomaniak commits not to use your conversations to train its models. It now also offers Apertus, a model developed in Switzerland by EPFL and ETH Zurich.<\/p>\n<h3>Email encryption for everyone<\/h3>\n<p>Since June 17, 2025, all Infomaniak email users can send encrypted emails for free, including to a Gmail or Outlook address: the recipient opens the message with a password. It isn&#8217;t end-to-end encryption, but it&#8217;s more than enough for a quote, a pay stub or a client document.<\/p>\n<h3>A well-handled security alert<\/h3>\n<p>On September 2, 2025, Infomaniak announced it had blocked an intrusion attempt on one of its management systems. No data leak was found, but the host asked its customers to change their passwords and turn on two-factor authentication. The transparency of the communication was rather reassuring. The advice itself applies to everyone.<\/p>\n<h3>kDrive and kSuite are growing<\/h3>\n<p>kDrive, the Swiss alternative to Google Drive, passed one million accounts in July 2026. The kSuite collaboration suite (email, calendar, storage, team chat, Euria) starts at under 2 Swiss francs per user per month, before tax, for businesses. The only notable price increase we spotted over the period: Swiss Backup, the backup service, raised its prices on January 1, 2026.<\/p>\n<h2>Three things to check on your side<\/h2>\n<h3>1. Your website&#8217;s PHP version<\/h3>\n<p>PHP is the language WordPress runs on. Each version has a limited lifespan: PHP 8.1 stopped receiving security fixes on December 31, 2025, and PHP 8.2 will stop after December 31, 2026. A site running on an abandoned version works fine, until the day a vulnerability is exploited. Upgrading needs preparation, because it can reveal incompatible plugins, and at Infomaniak you can&#8217;t roll back to an obsolete version once the upgrade is done. For websites on our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hdkn-solutions.com\/en\/website-maintenance-montreal\/\">maintenance plan<\/a>, we take care of it, after testing. For the others, now is a good time to check.<\/p>\n<h3>2. Two-factor authentication<\/h3>\n<p>On your Infomaniak account, on your mailbox, on your website&#8217;s admin. If you haven&#8217;t turned it on yet, do it this week. It takes ten minutes, and it&#8217;s the best protection against password theft.<\/p>\n<h3>3. In Quebec, Law 25<\/h3>\n<p>Hosting a website or email in Switzerland means entrusting personal information to someone outside Quebec: customer contact details, contact forms, email exchanges. Since September 2023, Law 25 requires a privacy impact assessment (PIA) in that case, and a written agreement to govern the transfer. Switzerland has a data protection law that was modernized in 2023, and Infomaniak commits to keeping data in Switzerland: both are points in your favor to record in the assessment. But it has to be done and documented. The same goes for any tool hosted outside Quebec, from American AI assistants to business software. Going public could have worried us if it had opened the door to a takeover. It hasn&#8217;t: the foundation stays in control, and the commitments made to customers are clear.
