A version for small businesses followed on September 29.

An agent “reads” your website the way a screen reader does. A clear, accessible site is a site an AI can use.

Until now, AI assistants answered questions. Over the past few months, they have started doing things for us. Meta’s launch of Muse on September 8 marks a milestone: this is no longer a tool for enthusiasts, it’s a mainstream agent, built right into WhatsApp, the most widely used messaging app in the world.

Canada is among the first countries to get it, well ahead of Europe. In other words, your customers here can already hand a booking or a purchase over to Muse. Better to understand now what it does and what it expects from a website.

Muse, a product family built in five months

Behind Muse is Meta Superintelligence Labs, the AI division Meta reorganized in 2025 under Alexandr Wang. The launches came in quick succession this year:

April 8, 2026: Muse Spark, the division’s first model, replacing the previous engine behind Meta AI.

July 7, 2026: Muse Image for image generation, plus a preview of Muse Video.

August 5, 2026: Muse Code, a coding agent.

September 8, 2026: Muse, the consumer personal agent, on iOS, Android, the web and inside WhatsApp, starting in the United States.

September 18, 2026: Muse arrives in Canada.

At its Connect conference on September 23, Meta announced that Muse will come to its smart glasses “in the coming months”, along with direct connections to retailers such as Walmart, Sephora and Wayfair, and payment methods such as PayPal and Shop Pay.

What Muse actually does

You ask it to do a task in plain language, and it carries it out in a browser running on Meta’s servers. It can send emails, book a trip, fill out a form or negotiate a bill. For purchases, it uses a single-use credit card generated through Link, Stripe’s service. It keeps working even when the app is closed.

Meta put a lot of emphasis on safety. A second agent, called Sentinel, decides what Muse is allowed to do: allow, block or ask for confirmation. Every purchase must be approved by the user. And, a detail that matters a lot to us, Muse’s browser doesn’t read the page code the way a developer would: it relies on the accessibility tree, the representation that screen readers use for blind and visually impaired people, and it cannot run JavaScript.

On pricing, Muse comes in a free version and two paid plans, Power and Maximum, announced at US$20 and US$100 a month in the United States. A credit card is required at sign-up. As far as we know, Meta has not yet published the list of supported languages.

What about businesses?

On September 29, Meta launched Muse for small business, available in the United States and Canada. The agent connects to Facebook and Instagram pages, Meta ads, Shopify, QuickBooks and Stripe. It can analyze performance, prepare campaigns, review spending and flag messages that need a reply. Meta says nothing gets published, sent or spent without the user’s approval.

For a small business, there are two sides to this. On one side, a tool that can save time on repetitive tasks. On the other, and this is the most important part, customers who are starting to hand their searches and bookings over to an AI. On that second point, the question becomes: when an agent lands on your website, can it find its way?

Muse isn’t alone

Meta is joining a race that is already well under way:

In October 2024, Anthropic introduced “computer use”, an AI capable of operating a computer.

In January 2025, OpenAI launched Operator, which was folded into ChatGPT in July 2025 as ChatGPT agent.

In Canada, Google’s AI Mode has been able to book restaurant tables since April 10, 2026, with OpenTable and Libro.

Google (AP2, then the Universal Commerce Protocol) and OpenAI with Stripe (the Agentic Commerce Protocol) have published protocols so agents can pay online.

Not everything works perfectly yet, and OpenAI actually scaled back its plans for direct purchases in ChatGPT earlier this year. But the direction is clear: some of the visits to websites will no longer be made by humans, and those visits can end in a real booking or a real order.

What an agent expects from your website

Good news: there’s nothing exotic to do. What helps an agent is what already helps a busy human, or someone browsing with a screen reader.

Information written out, not hidden in images

Opening hours, address, prices, service area: if they’re in an image or a PDF, the agent can’t see them. They need to be written as text on the page.

Clean forms

Every field needs a clear label (“Name”, “Preferred date”), understandable error messages and a submit button that says what it does. A cobbled-together form, with no labels or that only works through a complicated script, blocks the agent just as it already blocks some of your visitors.

A simple booking flow

Fewer steps, easy-to-read time slots, a clear confirmation. If a human gets lost, so will an agent.

Transparent prices

Agents ask the user for approval before paying. A price that only appears at the last step, with surprise fees, kills the sale.

Consistent structured data

The tags that describe your business, products or services to search engines should say the same thing as the page. No more, no less.

You may have noticed: this is almost word for word the list of accessibility best practices. AI agents rely on the same foundations as assistive technologies. An accessible website is a website an AI can use.

Our take

No need to panic: agents are still clumsy, and your human customers come first. But in Canada, Muse is already here, and that’s a real reason to clean things up now, because that cleanup benefits your flesh-and-blood customers first. If your website was built several years ago, with prices in images, outdated forms or a five-step booking process, now is the right time for a redesign or, at the very least, an audit.

And if you want to use AI yourself to automate part of your business, that’s what our AI automation services are about. Get in touch and we’ll look at your situation.

Sources

Meta, introducing the Muse agent, September 8, 2026

Meta, launch of Muse Spark, April 8, 2026

TechCrunch, September 8, 2026

Meta, agent security and Sentinel

Meta, the biggest news from Connect 2026, September 23, 2026

iPhone in Canada, Muse now available in Canada, September 18, 2026

Meta, Muse for small business, September 29, 2026

Google Canada, restaurant booking in AI Mode, April 2026

OpenAI, Instant Checkout and the Agentic Commerce Protocol, September 29, 2025

With Muse, Meta is launching an AI agent that can make bookings, fill out forms and buy things on the user’s behalf.
